Lignin Industries' OpEd in Aktuell Hållbarhet: Quotas for biobased materials to enable the plastics industry's green transformation

We believe that Sweden, through our long tradition of forest industry and innovative manufacturing industry, has good conditions to develop a competitive plastics industry based on recycled raw materials and bio-based raw materials from residual products in agriculture and forestry. But for this to come true, the industry must remove the barriers. Standards for recycling and accounting of carbon emissions must be updated to enable an increased proportion of biobased raw materials in plastics. If the industry cannot manage this on its own, we believe that quotas for biobased materials should be introduced to reduce CO2 emissions in the plastic industry.
