Renol® – Revolutionary Bio-based Plastics, Unlocking the Power of Forest Residues
Harness the renewable strength of lignin for sustainable solutions without compromising quality.
Sustainable alternative to fossil plastics
Reducing dependence on fossil-based plastics is no longer optional, but for most companies, it remains difficult to achieve without compromising performance, cost, or reliability.
At Lignin Industries, we offer a solution. Renol® is a bio-based thermoplastic in granule form that enables companies to significantly reduce CO2 emission without changing production processes. It is designed to be scalable, compatible with existing systems, and resilient in an everchanging raw material landscape.
This is not a compromise – it’s a shift aligned with the future demands of the plastics industry.
At Lignin Industries, we see nature as the foundation for a sustainable future, and our vision is clear: a world where bioplastics are the norm, not the exception.
Lignin – A Renewable Source
Our innovation starts with lignin. Lignin is a natural polymer found in the cell walls of all plants. In trees, lignin constitutes about 20-30% of their structure, serving as a natural and robust binder. It connects cellulose and hemicellulose, contributing to the wood's stiffness and resistance to decay. Following cellulose, lignin is the second-largest renewable source of carbon available.
As a non-toxic & renewable material, lignin presents a valuable opportunity to reduce our reliance on fossil-based resources. Its naturally occurring strength properties enable the development of high-performance, sustainable materials with significantly reduced carbon footprint.
Lignin is currently treated as a byproduct of the forestry and agricultural sectors but has the potential to become a much more valuable raw material than being burnt for its energy value. By harnessing this untapped resource, our innovation plays a key role in the circular economy – transforming waste into a renewable solution.
From Nature to Performance:
Introducing Renol®
While it is known that lignin holds great potential, it presents challenges for the plastics industry due to its hygroscopic and low-density powder form, which isn't compatible with the standard granules companies are accustomed to.
Lignin Industries holds the solution. We convert lignin by combining it with a bio-based oil, producing our thermoplastic material called Renol®. We offer Renol® as masterbatches in granular form where Renol® is blended with a carrier polymer.
Designed for performance, Renol® helps companies meet sustainability goals.
Unlocking Possibilities: Enabling a Low-Carbon Future.
Our customers, whether they are compounders or converters, use Renol® to reduce their reliance on fossil-based plastics while delivering high-performance products – driving the shift towards a more sustainable, low-carbon future.
Renol® masterbatches are drop-in solutions that work with both recycled and virgin resins. Suitable for film blowing, injection moulding and extrusion, they integrate seamlessly into existing operations – requiring no adjustments to processing equipment.
Renol® is a highly versatile material that can be used across a wide range of plastic applications and manufacturing technologies.
